Those Were The Days.

The war started on my 15th birthday and I had all my teen years in the war, and, truth to tell, they were the best of my life.
I had me a ball because in Leicester it didn't seem like there was a war on except for the rationing, but I had nothing to do with food in those days, that was my Mum's department and she always managed to get us a good meal.

By that time I was ready for blokes and the Yanks were all around and in Leicester, so you can guess the rest!!!!!!

I worked at the Chilprufe when war broke out and that was considered a luxury trade, not essential, so off I went into engineering at Jones and Shipmans in Greenlane Rd.
I couldn't wait to work nights when I was sent to Gent's the Electrical factory in St Saviours Rd. We had no choice about going, we were just directed there and had to go.
I was going to play all day and work all night...... so I thought....... wasn't long before I was flopping into bed as soon as I got home from the night shift and eating my dinner in my sleep.
I usually had to ask my Mum what I had eaten for dinner.
Those were the days when we had dinner at midday.
Ah, those were the days! I really had it quite good, compared to some like those in Coventry and Birmingham.
